Speaker Block #3

DENNIS MORTENSEN

CEO/Founder, x.ai

Dennis is the CEO and Founder of x.ai. He’s a pioneer and expert in leveraging Data and a serial entrepreneur who has successfully delivered a number of company exits on that theme. Dennis’s long term vision of killing the inbox triggered the formation of x.ai and the creation of an artificial intelligence personal assistant to schedule meetings. He’s an accredited Associate Analytics Instructor at the University of British Columbia, the Author of Data Driven Insights from Wiley and a frequent speaker on the subject of AI, intelligent agents, and the future of work. A native of Denmark, Mortensen currently calls New York City his home.

In this talk, x.ai CEO and Founder, Dennis Mortensen, will discuss some of the important factors and decisions that need to be made in building an AI autonomous agent. As x.ai developed its AI assistants—Amy & Andrew—who take over meeting scheduling entirely, they encountered quite a few unexpected challenges.

This talk will cover the key questions and challenges to consider if you’re involved in designing artificially intelligent agents, based on those faced by x.ai in building their AI assistants (more details below).

ABOUT THE EVENT

 DESCRIPTION:
Join us for what's sure to be an awesome night in AI! We're excited to be hosting Kathryn Hume (VP Product and Strategy, integrate.ai) who will talk about "Ethical Algorithms: Bias and Explainability in Machine Learning Systems".

Wine + Beer + Snacks + AI + Networking = The Best Tuesday ever!

ABSTRACT:

Over the past year, discourse about the ethical risks of machine learning has largely shifted from speculative fear about rogue super intelligent systems to critical examination of machine learning's propensity to exacerbate patterns of discrimination in society. This talk explains how and why bias creeps into supervised machine learning systems and proposes a framework businesses can apply to hold algorithmic systems accountable in a way that is meaningful to people impacted by systems. You'll learn why it's important to consider bias throughout the entire machine learning product lifecycle (not just algorithms), how to assess tradeoffs between accuracy and explainability, and what technical solutions are available to reduce bias and promote fairness.
